Today I am working on my photo book of Ryan Adams fans. For those of you who don’t know, I spent a couple of years going to many shows as possible, taking photos along the way of people I had ‘met’ online on fan forums. As most people use nicknames, I thought I would recreate that in my photos by not taking traditional portraits, and to reveal as little as I could of the person’s identity. I looked for other ways to represent them, and enjoyed finding the traces of their personality to photograph. This was also where my Beds project really took off, so I got 2 projects for the price of one, as it were.
For the book, I have decided to add ephemera such as tickets and passes to anchor it all together. There will be no photos of Ryan Adams or any of the band. Of course, it is the music that brought us all together, but what became more important was the community of people that formed because of it.
